And so we are beginning our slow descent into Autumn. As the oppressive warmth of Summer is supplanted by the coolness of the Northern winds, we find ourselves reviving, once more able to go about our business with renewed vigor.
I've always found this time of year invigorating. Perhaps it's because my birthday is around the corner, which is a kind of "reset button" for me. Perhaps it's the urgency to get certain things done, to harvest the results of the year's labors before winter sets in. Whichever the case, I've certainly gotten some wonderful returns for my efforts this year, especially with regard to opportunities to carry out my vocation.
For starters, I've still got my weekly reading gig on Friday nights at Absolution, 87 Ludlow St., NYC. Then, I will be resuming my monthly reading gig at Necromantic, Bowery Poetry Club, NYC. Also, I am supposed to be starting next month with monthly readings at the Court of Lazarus--A Salon Noir, held at Madame X, West Houston St., NYC. These will be regular events.
As to special events, I will once again have a reading tent at Pagan Pride Day NYC, on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010 in Battery Park, from 11a-5p. If you come down to celebrate with us, please look for the white tent with the clear windows; the readers will be under or next to it, including me.
I will also be reading *and* vending at the New York Witch Fest, at the Sheraton Hotel in Smithtown, Long Island, NY on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, from 9a-5p. What will I be selling? Come down and see!
The latest thing on my schedule--for the moment--is the Sundown Halloween Party on Samhain (that's October 31 for all the non-Pagans). The ritual, which I have been asked to write and officiate, will be held at 9p, so any earlybirds who can't get the next day off from work or school can still come out and celebrate with us. I will also, most likely, be reading that night. The entire event runs from about 8p-4a, so there will be plenty of time to socialize, drink and dance afterwards. Also, there will be a stage magic performance by the redoubtable Jeffrey Jene, a Houdini Award-winning magician (who also happens to be a practicing Witch). This is definitely NOT to be missed!
Whew! Things are finally coming to fruition...and about time, too!
Aside from that, I am gearing up to begin auditions and meetings for the new Interfaith chorus that folks have been looking forward to. The only thing holding me back, really, has been the huge amount of dental work I have to complete--it's kind of hard to sing when you're getting recurring migraines. So, after the end of this month--hopefully--that will be done and we can go ahead with this!
I also have had yet more requests for private and semi-private classes in the Craft. As to that, I'm still finishing the written parts, plus I have to arrange a more accessible space for the students (where I live right now is available and free, but sometimes awkward to get to unless you live in the area). I *could* start now, but I'd feel a lot more comfortable if I had just a bit more done. So, that will be coming soon, but probably not until November.
The format of the class, whether a coven or one-on-one, or some mixture of the two, is still to be determined. I'll have to decide on that after I've met with the prospective students and gauged their needs.
So! On to better, brighter things! Blessed be and may your harvest be fruitful!
